Decking Out a Rental with Libby Langdon

Learn about design ideas for decorating your rental space

OK. So you’re renting but that doesn’t mean you have to surrender to a life of boring beige walls.

Hi, I’m interior designer and home makeover expert Libby Langdon.

Did you know there’s a way you can spice up your rental space without permanently altering your landlord’s dwelling?

I love this cool new removal peel-and-stick wallpaper. No wallpaper paste necessary.  It’s got an adhesive backing on it so you can literally just mount it up on the wall and when you want to leave you can take it down and no damage is done. And you can even take it and use it in your next  space.  It’s also a great idea if you want to cover just the inside back of a shelving unit.  It still gives you a great hint of color but it’s not overwhelming the room.  So be creative and have some fun. It’s all rent-safe.

Another temporary design solution for your walls is to apply fabric.  What you’re going to do is mount it to the wall by using thumb tacks up where the wall meets the ceiling.  Then you’re going to hot glue a piece of ribbon so it covers up the line of tacks.  And it’s a great way to have some fun with a bold fabric but you want to isolate it to just one wall so it doesn’t overwhelm your room.

So it just goes to prove that you can have fun designing your rented spaces, without losing your deposit.
